my new job – pedro the house boy

the week before thanksgiving i could tell that something was up at work, so the day before i confronted the ceo who offered “you should be looking”.

happy holidays – enjoy your turkey.

today they let the entire client dev team (including me) go. vp on down. they are moving the work out of the country. i’ll admit that i was surprised – but i probably shouldn’t have been.

so my current job title is house boy – catering to the every need of my sugar momma.

the timing is quite poor. firstly if i were going to have some time off the dead of winter would not be my first choice (i’ve always wanted to do the long trail end-to-end for example). and more importantly our nz plans make it much more complicated. since we are applying under the skilled migrant category it would make things much easier if i were employed. it is not crystal clear what the requirements are and if this will have any impact. and putting the application aside my plan was to keep working until our application was approved and then take some time to relax and deal with all the logistics. since we haven’t even submitted yet approval could still be up to 10 months away. so do i try and find some short term gig? do i find another full time position and just bag when the approval comes through? no clear answer yet.

the ita has arrived

the official invitation to apply (ita) arrived today in a thick package from london. it came registered so i had to go to the post office to sign for it. i’ll admit very exciting.

i was dreading filling out the full application, but nzis has made it much easier by including an application pre filled in with all of our eoi responses. so the general theme of the application is to document (prove) everything that we said in our eoi.

the highlights:

  • full medicals including chest xrays and blood tests for everything scary
  • original birth certificates, marriage certificates, college transcripts & diplomas
  • proof of employment history (this should be a treat getting companies that i worked for more than 10 years ago to document my work history including job titles)
  • fbi criminal records
  • evidence of relationship to prove that jackie is not a mail order bride (photos of the jboss and me smiling with relatives – guess i’ll have to photoshop that…)

we’ve already started on most of this so the hope is to get the application in by mid december.

5 boxes ticked, $28.33 spent

saturday morning went on a road trip with the jboss to one of the few notary public’s who has weekend hours so we could get certified copies of our passpost and diplomas. this lets us check off 5 items on the application to-do list. at $5 per certification plus a few bucks for the colour copies the tally was $28.33. just a blip in the big picture.

[UPDATE - we (me) did the copes wrong so we have to do them again. sigh]

our tally so far:

  • certified copies $28.33
  • fbi raps sheets 2*$18 + $9.95 for express mail
  • medical $20 (the bargain so far)
  • passport size photos $9 + $18.95 + $18.95
  • marriage certificate $14
  • bu transcript $5
  • case transcript $7
  • eoi application fee $201

no, you don’t glow in the dark
